The Xanadu Drive-In is an Australian first – a brand new COVID- safe, socially distanced performance venue that combines nostalgic film screenings with simultaneous live performances created and presented by a multi-award-winning team made up of the SA-based makers of 'BLUNDERLAND', ‘TRAFFIC’, 'EGG', 'FEMME', and 'SMASHED'.

Developed by South Australian new arts company, Speakeasy Events, our unique combination of a drive-in with live performance has been created in direct response to the growing need for COVID-safe, lockdown and capacity-restriction-proof performance models and live events - for artists and audiences alike - amidst the uncertainty brought by the pandemic.

The Xanadu Drive-In offers a much-needed sense of community and connection at a time when the arts and events sector has really been put under pressure. Creators themselves are desperate to create again- to make new work and collaborate with other artists in viable and COVID-safe ways.

Eric Schmalenberger & Blunderland Variety: HOST/LATENIGHT PRODUCER

Eric is a long-established icon of the underground New York Cabaret scene - hosting, curating, and producing his wildly infamous psychedelic variety shows ‘Blunderland’ and ‘Extra Burlesque’ there for over 20 years, casting many of the world's most sought-after Cabaret, Sideshow, Burlesque, and Circus performers in venues across NYC and the globe. After a hugely successful breakout first Adelaide Fringe season, he is currently opening sold-out versions of ‘Blunderland’ in London, New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Melbourne, simultaneously. He joins thE XANADU DRIVE-IN TEAM as Latenight Compère of Our 2022 Fringe Season, along with his intoxicating cast of world-class performers.

Victoria Falconer & ‘Smashed’: HOST/CREATIVE CONSULTANT

Victoria is an award-winning cabaret artist, multi-instrumentalist and musical director of Top Tier theatre across Australia, Co-creator of acclaimed feminist troupe Fringe Wives Club, whose debut ‘Glittery Clittery’ has appeared at Southbank Centre, Soho Theatre (London), Darwin Festival and at Edinburgh Fringe, where it received the ‘Spirit of the Fringe’ Award in 2018. She has twice received the ‘Best Cabaret’ Award at Adelaide Fringe, and in 2020 she was nominated for a ‘Sydney Theatre Award’ (’Once,’ Darlinghurst Theatre Company) and a Green Room Award (’GliTtergrass,’ Malthouse Theatre) for musical direction. She joins the Xanadu Drive-In Team as Glamorous co-Host and Creative Consultant on both our Xmas & Fringe seasons, along with the stellar cast of her smash-hit festival show ‘Smashed.’
